Dangerous in Southeastern Greece: the threat of a devastating earthquake is growing

Calculations based on the Method of Seismic Entropy (MSE) show that a strong earthquake is possible in the coming months in southeastern Greece in the Aegean Sea.

Seismic activity is growing in this region and a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 may occur here in the coming months (from May to July).

The MSE allows for a unified model to take into account recent seismic activity (seismic swarm from Jan. 25 to Feb. 6) and earthquakes from May 13, M=6.0, and May 22., M=6.2, 2025 in the Aegean Sea.

The Greek islands of Karpathos, Rhodes, and Crete fall into the danger zone. The expected earthquake may trigger a tsunami, dangerous for Is. Crete and the Aegean coast in western Turkey. The increase in seismic activity can be traced using our Geoquake Application, developed on the basis of MSE.

The increasing number of sensitive earthquakes with magnitudes in the 6.0-6.5 in the region may serve as a possible harbinger of a powerful earthquake. Given the popularity of the Greek islands among tourists, the scale of a possible disaster could be critical.

Geoquake is an application based on innovative technology for global earthquake monitoring and forecasting. It is designed to provide users with information about seismic hazards in real time. Users have the opportunity to prepare themselves in advance for a possible strong earthquake, be vigilant, and protect themselves and their loved ones.

GeoQuake Recommendations:

  • Monitor in-app seismic alerts
  • Prepare an emergency kit: documents, first aid, water, food, flashlight
  • Familiarize yourself with local evacuation plans
  • At the first signs of shaking, take cover under a table or in a doorway
  • After an earthquake, move to an open area and avoid old buildings

GeoQuake analyzes both current seismic events and long-term geophysical changes, making it an essential tool for residents and travelers in seismically active zones.

If you are on Crete or planning to travel there, make sure to install the GeoQuake app and enable location services. It can provide real-time warnings and help protect you and your loved ones.
Seismic activity on Crete is rising — each day could be critical. GeoQuake helps you stay one step ahead.
